A Nestle for Research Talents and Platform for Research Innovation
XISU (hereby "the University") has collaboratively established 6 research Centers and Institutes with relevant administrators and authorities, which include the Center for European and American Literature Research, the Center for Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics Research, the Institute Shaanxi Tourism Research, the Xi'an Institute of Contemporary International Studies, the Collaborative Innovation Center for the Silk Road Language Services, and the Center for Humanities and Social Sciences Research, in order to lay a solid research foundation for University's "Four Excellences".
Problem-Oriented Foci Seize More Opportunities
Over the past five years, the University has undertaken 18 projects at national level, 105 projects at ministerial and provincial level, and 247 projects at departmental level. The total subsidy has reached nearly RMB 10 million. The University has signed 125 corporative projects on tourism planning, foreign language translation, management consultancy and so on with various enterprises and institutions, which has brought to the University more than RMB 8 million research funds and, therefore, has further enhanced University's capacity for social service.
Quality Projects Yield Quality Products
Over the past five years, faculty and staff of the University have published more than 3280 papers (including more than 860 core papers), and more than 120 academic works, and they earned 75 research awards at various levels. All have contributed to the University to be nationally and internationally influential. In 2015, the University was selected as one of "the important sources of the copied materials from newspapers and journals recognized by Renmin University of China (2015 edition)".
Intensive Academic Exchanges Boost Better Academic Atmosphere
In recent years, the University has actively held high-level academic conferences such as the 14th International Conference on Contemporary Linguistics (May, 2012), the 3rd International Symposium on French Modern and Contemporary Literatures and Translations (May, 2013), the First Sino-American Scholars Forum on China (June, 2013), the Education Cooperation Forum of the 18th Investment and Trade Forum for Cooperation Between East and West China and the Silk Road International Expo (May, 2014), "Silk Road Civilization and Orientalism" Roundtable (April, 2015), the 4th China Symposium on Syntax and Semantics (November, 2015), the 8th Asia-Pacific Translation ad Interpreting Forum (June, 2016), the Silk Road Regional Cooperation and Development Forum (October, 2016), the 4th National Symposium on Corpus Translation Studies (April, 2017), the 2ed Silk Road Regional Cooperation and Development Forum (June, 2017). The University's social influence, popularity and recognition have been greatly enhanced.
Quality Journals Expand Academic Influence
First issued in 1979, the Foreign Language Education is now recognized and listed in "common core journals of foreign languages in China" of the Guide to Core Journals of China published by Peking University, the source journals of "Chinese Social Sciences Citation Index (CSSCI)" issued by Nanjing University, "Chinese core journals in humanities and social sciences" issued by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, "China's internationally influential excellent academic journals", "RCCSE Chinese core academic journals" issued by Wuhan University, "core journals of Chinese journal of humanities and social sciences", important sources of the "copied materials from newspapers and journals" by Renmin University of China (2012 edition), "national top 100 social science journals", "outstanding university social science journals in China", and "authoritative journals in social science in Shaanxi". First issued in 1986, Human Geography is now listed in the Chinese Journals of the Cultural and Geographical Institute (International Geographical Union), and "Chinese core journals", "core Journals of the Chinese geographical science", the source journals of the "Chinese Social Sciences Citation Index (CSSCI)", and "Chinese core journals in humanities". In 2013, Human Geography ranked second in reprinting rate of entire article and comprehensive index, and first in the reprinting rate among those newspapers and journals recognized by Renmin University of China. In 2014, it was selected as "the important sources of the copied materials from newspapers and journals" by Renmin University of China, and was selected as "Chinese most internationally influential academic journals" for consecutive years. First issued in 1993, Journal of Xi'an International Studies University is listed in "important foreign language journals in China" and the "RCCSE Chinese core academic journals" published by Wuhan University. In 2013, the Journal was selected for the first time in the source journals of "Chinese Social Sciences Citation Index (CSSCI), extended edition", and "excellent social science journals in China", "Shaanxi key journals in social science", "excellent university journals in social science in China", and "Chinese core journals in humanities and social sciences" published by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
A New Century Chinese-English Dictionary was edited by Professor Huiyu of XISU. This magnificent dictionary is an important achievement in the history of China's lexicography. It has won second prize of "4th excellent university research achievements in humanities and social sciences in China" and first prize of "8th excellent achievements in philosophy and social science in Shaanxi". When the former President Hu Jintao visited Kenya, the Dictionary was presented to the Confucius Institute at Nairobi as a national gift. Corpus-based Approaches to Translation Style Studies by Professor Huang Libo, has attempted to build the Chinese-English parallel corpus of modern and contemporary Chinese novels based on the corpus of modern and contemporary Chinese novels and their English translations, in order to explore various forms of translation styles and particularity and reasons of the translation as the intermediary text from the language presented; the book won the first prize of "12th excellent achievements in philosophy and social science in Shaanxi". Popularization of Higher Education: Experience, Problems and Prospects of Shaanxi by Professor Hao Yu, has won the third prize of "4th excellent achievement of educational scientific research in China"; Professor Dang Zhengsheng's article On the Translation Thoughts of David Hawkers and Yang Xianyi has won the second prize of "12th excellent achievements in philosophy and social science in Shaanxi", the article made a comparative summary of the translation thoughts of David Hawkers and Yang Xianyi on the basis of studies of the two versions of A Dream of Red Mansions; and Deconstruction and Reconstruction: The Cultural Counterplot of Russian Postmodern Novels, a monograph of Professor Wen Yuxia, also won the second prize of "10th excellent achievements in philosophy and social science in Shaanxi".
